Dan has spent over a decade working in technology, across roles in desktop support, network administration, and IT consulting. That background is where DataHoarder.io comes from — a practical interest in how you actually store, retrieve, and protect large amounts of data over the long term, rather than a theoretical one.

The site covers Usenet providers and indexers, newsreader and automation setups, NAS hardware and storage layouts, and the VPN and privacy tooling that sits underneath all of it. Dan runs his own home lab built on the same pieces — a self-hosted NAS, an automated Usenet stack, and the privacy layer that holds it together. He also maintains the open-source awesome-usenet list on GitHub.

His main interests are data hoarding, digital privacy, and network security — areas that matter more every year as breaches and large-scale data collection become routine. Outside of work he is an avid gamer and a family man, and he believes technology should make life simpler and more private rather than more exposed. That is the through-line of most of what gets published here.
