How Does Overseerr Work?

Overseerr acts as the “front door” to your media server. It is a web-based application that you host alongside your Plex server.

When your friends or family want to access a new file, they do not text you. Instead, they open a web browser and log into your Overseerr website using their existing Plex account credentials.

The Workflow:

1. Your friend logs into Overseerr and sees a beautiful interface showing trending digital assets, upcoming titles, and personalized recommendations.
2. They search for a specific file and click the “Request” button.
3. Overseerr automatically checks if the asset is already on your Plex server. If not, it sends an API request directly to Radarr or Sonarr.
4. The automation software uses Prowlarr to search your best Usenet indexers.
5. The file is sent to your Usenet newsreader (like SABnzbd).
6. The file downloads at gigabit speeds via your Usenet provider, imports into Plex, and Overseerr automatically sends your friend an email saying: “Your request is ready to view!”
